Spinning Into The City
Located in a central part of London, this project is a new type of building which engages the local community in the sport cycling. The centre can hold indoor spin classes, city cycle classes and track cycle opportunities so the people of all age and abilities can find a class that works for them. There is also a cafe on the upper floor and a workshop to help people repair their bikes themselves, instead of taking it to a shop. Voids are a large part of the building. The main void looks into the spin studio below which allows visitors a chance to see classes before signing up and may reduce the initial fear of starting something new as it isn’t completely unknown. The upper floor also looks out onto the floor below so the whole place has a very open and public feel to it and all the spaces are connected, making is easy to find your way around. Even the outdoor track can be seen through the windows in the cafe as the roof is designed on a curve to allow as many interesting views in and out as possible.
