Broughty Ferry
Broughty Ferry is a small, beach side town which has attracted artists for a long time for many reasons, including the way the light hits the River Tay. The main landmark in the town is the castle which overlooks the river and was used for defensive reasons in the past and is now a popular tourist attraction. For the studio, still life painters tend to need space and storage for their displays. The lighting in the studio is also important. Most painters prefer north light as it is the most constant natural light source, whilst south light changes a lot throughout the day, casting dark shadows which aren’t ideal for an artist.
