My first experience working with TOWN was on their Love Wolverton project. ‘Love Wolverton’ comprises the regeneration of an unloved, derelict shopping centre named the ‘Agora’ and adjacent car park in Wolverton, Milton Keynes. The scheme proposes to demolish the Agora and replace it with 115 flats and houses, including 29 units for an older person (over 55’s) co-housing group called Still Green, as well as
a number of commercial units.
a number of commercial units.
My work on this project was heavily focused on preparing various planning application documentation which was submitted December 2020. This included reviewing, writing and presenting the Design and Access Statement, Housing Statement Planning Summary and other documents. It also included working on
imagery for different parts of the scheme. This meant communication with the consultants on the wider scheme renders to assure they were a high quality and producing my own image for Still Green based on the work done by the landscape architects. Using plans and existing modelling, I put together a visualisation of the co-housing garden to help the members understand what was being proposed. I was also tasked with designing a new, bespoke bus stop for the site which would fit within the architecture of the new development and the surrounding context. This process went from concept development to detail designing to assure the shelter would fit building regulations and safety standards and was ultimately included in the planning application.
During my time on this project, I also regularly attended and took minutes for full design team meetings, including architects Mikhail Riches and Mole, and meetings with Still Green residents.
